Worst Textbook EVER

This has got to be the worst textbook I have ever had the displeasure of having to study by. The chapters have no logical flow (the authors sell it as "self-contained chapters"), the problems make no sense, and the answers to the end of chapter products are wrong as often as they are right. I honestly learned a few concepts presented here better from Lehninger's Biochemistry.
If your professor is making you purchase this textbook, reconsider him as a teacher.

TERRIBLE book

P-chem isn't exactly an easy subject in the first place, but this book just makes it even worse. Several of the answers throughout the book are WRONG, many explanations are long and drawn out but without real substance, VERY easy to miss extremely important theories,symbol meanings, exceptions, etc, etc.
I guess the book might be ok for someone who basically already KNOWS P-chem in and out. But for a first P-chem book this is terrible, I hate to say. Most students, and even my instructor hate this book, but they have no control over what the university requires as far as books. Yet. I have no alternatives, but I would do alot of research if you have a choice as to what book you can use. hopefully you'll have an understanding instructor.

Disappointing mashup of Engel & Reid "Physical Chemistry"

I am a physical chemistry professor and used this text in my physical chemistry for biochemistry majors class. While this text is titled "Physical Chemistry for the Life Sciences" by Engel, Drobney & Reid, a close comparison with Engel and Reid's "Physical Chemistry" shows that a very large portion of the material is lifted straight out of the latter text. Some extra effort has been made to make some aspects more relevant to students oriented toward the life sciences, but it's generally tacked on here and there. It could not be otherwise when so much of the text is a direct copy for the more general book by primarily the same authors. The thermodynamics section is acceptable, and this is where the life science applications show their value. The chemical kinetics treatment was good as well. However, the quantum chemistry chapters are disastrously bad. Here, to cut down the treatment for life science students, the material in the original text was chopped down noticeably, BUT NOT RE-EDITED for content clarity or good sense. It's still the same text from Engel & Reid, but with missing sections. Hence, concepts appear without introduction, and the clarity descends from typical p-chem text (generally a tough slog, but that's the nature of the topic) to butchered p-chem (Ugh). It really made for a horrid second class (the quantum portion) for my students, and I will not select this text again.
The solution manual has all the typical problems--an annoying number of incorrect answers and sometimes, the method for solution is wrong. This is unfortunately all too common in many texts, as most authors relegate this task to somebody else.
