About the Author
William Fay graduated from Denver Seminary with a degree in leadership and has taken up the mantle of an evangelist. Fay is a chaplain with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, host of the internationally syndicated radio show, “Let’s Go,” and his booklet “How to Share Your Faith Without an Argument” has more than five million copies in print. He travels frequently around the globe sharing the Share Jesus Without Fear message and resides with his family in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Bill's methods really work.

I know Bill Fay personally, and I have been with him many times when he was evangelizing. I have personally watched him leading dozens of people to Christ.

The material in his book is not oversimplified or rationalized; Bill personally uses the methods he teaches. Everything in his book has been tested and refined in the crucible of experience. I have seen him successfully use the things he teaches over and over again in real-world evangelism.

What readers of the book need to understand is that Bill treats each person he talks to as if he or she is the most important person he has ever met. There is nothing rotely formulaic in his approach - people respond to him because they see that he cares, and that he truly means and believes everything he says. Bill combines his straightforward methodology with a very personal approach. He genuinely cares about the people he evangelizes, and that shines through everything he says and does.

When he asks people if they were wrong, would they want to know it, and they reply, No, he really does walk away. Yes, most of them call him back, but when they don't, he keeps walking. It's not a gimmick. Bill means exactly what he says. If Bill has a "secret," that's it - he genuinely cares about people, and absolutely believes and means what he says.

After reading and studying many materials on how to share your faith, this is by far my favorite. It's easy to read and apply. I've also used this in teaching others how to share their faith without fear. We all need to be prepared and this is a great help!

This was purchased for an elderly gentlemen who loves it. He listens to the hymns on a CD and then reads about them in his morning devotions. May be the best gift we have ever come up with for him!

I was at Word of Life as the infirmary nurse back in 1971-72. The Wyrtzen family love the Lord, and want others to know Him. I enjoy reading a portion of this book each day. I am also a music lover, and am glad that Don used the Psalms to bring light to this subject.

Great help!!

I love this work book! I was really helpful come crunch study time for the AP exam. If you use it along with the newest text book edition it will also really help. good simple review for the exam also acts very similar to the actuall AP exam. I also help me in my AP class. If I didnt have time to read a chapter a night, I would read the summary in the work book. And before an exam on mulitple chapters instead of rereading 50+ pages and doing 75 odd questions to study, it was better to go over the summary in this book. then if you dont understand somethign go back to the text book and read that section over. The answers with explanations really help too. Highly reccomend this book for an AP bio class and for the AP bio test. ONly flaw is that doesnt really help if you dotn have the text book to go with it and that doesn't have as many diagrams as it should. OVerall fantastic resource!

Good vocab review, works so well with the text.

As another reviewer mentioned, the best way to use this book is to read the chapter review in the prep book along with the text book. I sit there and flip through both books, mainly so I can look at the diagrams in the big textbook. Diagrams are truly what helps the material stick in my head, and unfortunately this test prep book is lacking in them. but it doesn't matter because the diagrams in the big textbook are truly amazing.

Anyway, I like the format of this prep book because it makes learning tiny facts and vocabulary words very easy. Its shaped like an outline, so its already organized for you (and very easy to make flashcards from).

The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because of the practice exams. The first practice exam in the book is EXACTLY like the already released AP biology multiple choice exams. They just paraphrased and reworded the questions, but left exactly the same concepts. For example, on the first question they give u a graph and ask what the carrying capacity is. IN the official exam its 500 or something. IN the prep book, they changed the graph so its 800. SO my teacher let us take the released official exam in class. Then I went home and was practicing with this book, so the practice exam wasn't helpful. But, for some people who don't have access to the released multiple choice exam, it might not be a problem

Excellent entry- to mid-level

This book is clear, readable and interesting (more than I can say for my other reference books on this subject). It uses not just examples of good doc writing and formats, but also examples of first-cut not-so-good ones, and contrasts them. The layout of the book is easy to use, and the content complete.
I have several other reference books on this subject, and this is the one I love.

Outdated in format but very good

The reason for my post is this: it gave me a good viewpoint and methodology on how to budget, estimate, and quote hours s ell as the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

This book will tell you what it takes to design information concerning all aspects of software and hardware documentation. What it does, and I believe sets itslef from other books, is how to budget and plan estimates for software and hardware technical writing.

It will tell you how to write procedures, install guides, indexes, nice-to-haves, and user manuals. It will tell you what the SDLC is and what needs to happen at each stage; very useful to a novice (me). Great book for that and a good reference manual for those looking for tips on how to write; it will take you through step-by-step on how to deliver proper documentation... invaluable.

For its time, it was formatted in a way that was acceptable. If you can see past that and take away tidbits and chunks of information, this book is for you additionalto what I have said above.

It served my purpose of learning SDLC nuances; it talks of how to write and interview SMEs (very valuable to a novice), and give a great way to figure out how to estimate and plan a project.

I give it a B+ in 2006 times. I wonder what these knowledgeable authors would write if it was updated -- and they are very knowledgeable.

About the Author

For Elaine N. Marieb, taking the student's perspective into account has always been an integral part of her teaching style. Dr. Marieb began her teaching career at Springfield College, where she taught anatomy and physiology to physical education majors. She then joined the faculty of the Biological Science Division of Holyoke Community College after receiving her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

While teaching at Holyoke Community College, where many of her students were pursuing nursing degrees, she developed a desire to better understand the relationship between the scientific study of the human body and the clinical aspects of the nursing practice. To that end, while continuing to teach full time, Dr. Marieb pursued her nursing education, which culminated in a Master of Science degree with a clinical specialization in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts. It is this experience, along with stories from the field–including those of former students, now in health careers–that has informed the development of the unique perspective and accessibility for which her texts and laboratory manuals are known.

In her ongoing commitment to students and her realization of the challenges they face, Dr. Marieb has given generously to provide opportunities for students to further their education. She contributes to the New Directions, New Careers Program at Holyoke Community College by providing several full-tuition scholarships each year for women returning to college after a hiatus or who are attending college for the first time and would otherwise be unable to continue with their studies without financial support. She funds the E. N. Marieb Science Research Awards at Mount Holyoke College, which promotes research by undergraduate science majors, and generously contributed to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she provided funding for reconstruction and instrumentation of a cutting-edge cytology research laboratory that bears her name.

In 1994, Dr. Marieb received the Benefactor Award from the National Council for Resource Development, American Association of Community Colleges, which recognizes her ongoing sponsorship of student scholarships, faculty teaching awards, and other academic contributions to Holyoke Community College. In May 2000, the science building at Holyoke Community College was named in her honor.

Additionally, while actively engaged as an author, Dr. Marieb serves as a consultant for the Benjamin Cummings Interactive Physiology¨ CD-ROM series, and is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Sigma Xi. Anatomy & Physiology, Second Edition is the latest expression of her commitment to student needs in their pursuit of the study of A&P.

This book was an excellent educational tool and helped make learning a little bit more fun. This was a book that was required for the nursing program I completed, and I'm really glad that it was. I'm sure there's a newer edition by now, but if anything, it can only be better than this one. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in learning more about anatomy and physiology!

if you have to throw away $150...

If you actually buy this book you're paying for the illustrations. Don't waste your time actually reading it, the presentation of the material is ponderous and completely unimaginative. The chapter on immunology is one of the worst I've seen anywhere.

The COVER of the book speaks volumes for its content. I'd be afraid to be seen in public with it.

Want to save money?

This book is incredibly expensive. I've seen it listed for $200+ at some stores. I bought a brand new, shrink-wrapped "international version" for $37 plus $30 shipping (TOTAL $67). I know you're thinking that the shipping was high, but I received the book 36 hours after I ordered it and was thankful! It came with 3 sealed CD's and the online access code. The international version appears to be exactly the same except it is a soft cover and has a orange colored border surrounding that same picture on the cover. Good luck.

Much cheaper option over the newest edition

I highly recommend this book to anyone whose class is using the newest edition (8th or 9th I believe). I have used this for A&P 1 and 2, and it almost followed the newest edition word for word. There are a few different details in the info but the major info is the same. I bought this for $20 instead of paying $180 for the new edition. If you can use this edition, I HIGHLY recommend this to save you a lot of money. I plan to keep mine to refer to while going through Paramedic School.

"Teaching for Results" is a must read for all educators!

Why aren't my students responding to my teaching? What can I do to help my students retain more information? Should I be mearuring my teaching efficiency by the way students learn? How come I always get all of the boring students?
Findley Edge's book, "Teaching for Results," will answer those questions and others. More importantly, it explains cognitive and learning development in a way that is easilty understood. Don't be fooled, however, into thinking it is simplistic. It certainly is not as Findley did his homework into learning and teaching methods. This is a book that every institution that trains teachers should require every student to read.
If there is only one flaw in the book it is in trying to track Findley's use of terms when he transitions from one idea to another. This is most important to a person trying to make a teaching outline from some of the chapters in the book. If that is not important to you then I would give the book a fifth star.
Churches should consider requiring all Sunday School teachers to read this book and to even write a short report about each chapter and how their teaching methods will be impacted by what they have read. Public speakers will be very interested in reading about how a listener automatically responds to the way certain questions or visual images are phrased. A Must Read For Sunday School Workers

If you are only going to read one book to help you improve your teaching, this should be the one. In this book, Edge encourages teachers to not only know what their goal is in teaching the lesson, but to aim for that goal. His premise is that teachers should not be satisfied with putting some information out there and hoping that the students learn something from it. The teacher should have an action in mind and aim to get the students to do that action. If the students are not learning and putting what they learn into action then the teacher is not teaching. This book is well worth reading.

About the Author

Thomas Engel has taught chemistry for more than 20 years at the University of Washington, where he is currently Professor of Chemistry and Associate Chair for the Undergraduate Program. Professor Engel received his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry from the Johns Hopkins University, and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago. He then spent 11 years as a researcher in Germany and Switzerland, in which time he received the Dr. rer. nat. habil. degree from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In 1980, he left the IBM research laboratory in Zurich to become a faculty member at the University of Washington.

Professor Engel's research interests are in the area of surface chemistry, and he has published more than 80 articles and book chapters in this field. He has received the Surface Chemistry or Colloids Award from the American Chemical Society and a Senior Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which has allowed him to establish collaborations with researchers in Germany. He is currently working together with European manufacturers of catalytic converters to improve their performance for diesel engines.

Philip Reid has taught chemistry at the University of Washington since he joined the chemistry faculty in 1995. Professor Reid received his bachelor's degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1986, and his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992. He performed postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, campus before moving to Washington.

Professor Reid's research interests are in the areas of atmosphere chemistry, condensed-phase reaction dynamics, and nonlinear optical materials. He has published more than 70 articles in these fields. Professor Reid is the recipient of a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, is a Cottrell Scholar of the Research Corporation, and is a Sloan fellow.

The original idea was good...but the final product leaves much to be desired

I was actually one of the reviewers of an early version of many of the chapters of this text. The text itself makes a nice set of lecture notes and it progresses at a reasonable slow pace. I found the presentation and graphics to be quite nice and clear as if the publishers took their cues from similarly produced general chemistry texts.

The text is hardly encyclopedic and complete compared to other texts, notably McQuarrie and Simon, Atkins,

or the venerable Berry, Rice, and Ross. We decided to adopt this text for our two semester physical chemistry course hoping that students would like the pace and context -- however, 3/4 of the way through the year, it has been a disaster!

While the original draft had the usual density of typos, I'm astonished that so many made it through to the final version! There are numerous wrong equations--mostly annoying typos. Most damning is the fact that a lot of the molecular data in the text is wrong as are a number of the spectra.

Since this is supposed to be a

book focusing on spectroscopy, I find no excuse for this.

Let me give an example, in Table 8.3, which tabulates the vibrational frequencies, bond lengths, rotational constants, etc. for a number of diatomic species, nearly ALL of the vibrational frequencies listed are incorrect in comparison to the NIST database. Furthermore, the ro-vibrational spectra given in the text for HCl and for CO are clearly NOT the experimental spectra since both are systematically shifted relative the correct experimental spectra. (the text's HCl ro-vibrational spectrum is centered at 2991 cm-1 (where the forbidden Q-branch should be) compared to the experimental value of 2888 cm-1. Similarly, for CO, the spectrum should be centered at 2170 cm-1 and

not at 2143cm-1.) At least the spectra are consistent with the wrong

data in table 8.3! This crops up repeatedly through out the text. It frustrates the students and it's embarrassing. These may seem to be picky and petty details. However, spectroscopy is all about

making precise measurement of molecular properties and dynamics.

One reviewer commented on the clumsy wording of the problems. I agree. Having worked out

many on my group black-board with frustrated students...the problems leave much to be desired.

Again, the general sprit of the problems is good...the final result is not so good.

On the other hand, my class has decided to make lemonade out of a lemon. We've started the "Great

Typo Hunt" web-site where students can earn extra-credit by finding and confirming new typos in the text!

It's become a great sport!

This book does not live up to my expectations.

I highly suggest avoiding this book until an extreme make-over occurs. Even then, I would suggest looking at at different text.

Ugh.

This book sucks. It looks very professional, but upon further inspection one finds numerous errors, a rushed feel, and a lame pedagogical level.

The text itself is generally so-so, decent enough but not at all rigorous enough if you want to actually learn any quantum. If you're going to try for a subject like quantum you might as well go for a book like Lowe or Levine that at least tries for some mathematical complexity. There are numerous errors and typos.

The website for the book is useless. There, I said it.

However, the worst part of the book by far is the problems. They are almost to a man poorly worded, confusing, and RIDDLED WITH TYPOS! There is nothing worse than trying to guess what the author meant to write when doing a problem to make it match with the answer in the back. Also, many of the problems look as through they were cranked through as fast as possible using the same format for each one, which leads to wierd, confusing notation.

Bottom line: don't buy this book. If you for some ungodly reason have the book for a class, make sure to buy or check out Lowe and Levine.

A wonderful introduction to quantum chemistry

This book is meant to be an introduction to quantum chemistry, and it does a wonderful job at that. I am surprised at the other reviews complaining of its lack of rigor...this is meant to be an introduction to the subject. If you want something complete and encyclopedic, fine, go buy McQuarrie or something like that. This is meant as a first course quantum chemistry, and it also does an excellent job of introducing the major ideas necessary for graduate quantum chemistry, and is not afraid of doing the real math and operations necessary.
I feel like people are confusing be willing to explain concisely and in everyday language with lack of rigor.

This is written as a graduate student in chemical physics who majored in both chemistry and physics undergrad.
