Authors Scott Powers and Stephen Dodd, who have each taught for more than 20 years and won various teaching awards, bring their expertise in exercise physiology to this book. In addition to covering the primary concepts of physical fitness and wellness, the book provides a strong foundation in both exercise physiology and nutrition while addressing important issues such as exercise-related injuries, exercise and the environment, and exercise for special populations. For college instructors and students, or anyone interested in fitness and wellness, fitness concepts, or personal fitness.

About the Author

Scott Powers recieved his B.S. in physical education from the University of Georgia before going on the get his Ed.D. from the University of Tennessee and his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Scott has been teaching for over 20 years, and was named Teacher of the Year at the University of Florida in 1992. Scott served as president of the Southeastern Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine in 1986. Scott's primary area of research interest is the respiratory-metabolic adaptations to exercise. In his free time, Scott enjoys water sports: SCUBA-diving, water-skiing, and swimming in the Florida Keys.

Steve Dodd earned his B.S. in economics from the University of Alabama before going to the same university for his M.S. in exercise physiology and to Louisiana State University for his Ph.D., also in exercise physiology. He has been teaching for more than 20 years, in a variety of capacities, and has won numerous awards, including the Teacher of the Year award in 1997. He has won the annual "Instructional Resources Grant" from the University of Florida every year since 1991, allowing him to make innovations in use of multimedia in his classroom. Steve has held numerous chairs in committees at the University of Florida. His lab conducts research in various areas of muscle physiology. When he's not hard at work, Steve enjoys family outings, coaching little league baseball and basketball, sailing, and racquet sports.

So far, so good

I ordered this textbook January 23, 2016 for $7.84 and it was delivered in pretty good condition February 8, 2016. I ordered used because in new condition it was pretty expensive. I think the price was in the $100s. I'm creating my own home library and wanted to have a book for ever subject I studied in grade school and high school. I already have plenty of fiction, but wanted to build up a collection of reference books too since I'm now being contacted for homework help by my younger cousins. I also get curious sometimes and wanted to have easy access to facts rather than continue to strictly hit the Internet and read forums and blogs. This book covers my "Health Class"... I can't remember the actual name. It's got all the topics I get curious about ranging from diet to exercise to mental health to sexual wellness. Me likey! The book looks used, but there are no highlights or notes in it that I can see. The only complaint I have was that it was covered in stickers from being transferred bookstore to bookstore. I tried using my hair dryer as a heat gun and got a lot off the covers, but I still have a lot of adhesive residue and pieces of sticker that tore and wouldn't come off. :-( Anyway, it won't affect the information inside. I can't wait to read it when I finally go on school break... Someday, lol. It'll be a nice change from MySQL commands and HTML5 tags. :-)

Fun and educational

Bought this book for school, but I've got to say that it didn't feel like work when I was reading it. If you're just looking to know more about being healthy, I would suggest this book.
